The Obama Index

It's a shame you can't short a president.

I mean, you can get short presidents. But they typically suspend democracy and start invading neighbouring countries. But 'tis a pity there is no market in Obama. I'd go short.

This is not a criticism of the man. I like the man. I made my children watch the news about the man. Gave them a Coca-Cola to celebrate the Obama victory. I got up to watch the victory address live. But...

Can't help feeling he's about to do a Billy Graham.

Best speaker I ever saw. Speaker, that is. The Reverend Billy Graham came out to Murrayfield, 60,000 people present. Told a joke. That won people's affection. Empathised with their pain. That won their trust. Painted a picture of despair. That made them despair. Told them Jesus was the answer to their problems. That gave them hope. Guy should have been in sales. Well, he was.

Obama - and I say this with no disrespect, because right now he's Tony without the phony, times a large number - Obama has won people's affection. He has won their trust. Now, now is the time to paint a picture of economic despair. Drive the market into the ground. Shake out all the bad news. Lower expectations into hell itself. Then, on January 20th...

Offer salvation.

What's the upside for Obama in seeing a rally between now and his inauguration? The lower the starting point the greater his achievement. The lower the market the greater the love for the man when he saves us by slowly turning the ship around.

Good luck to him.

After eight years of greedy chaos from the White House, of market meltdown, of plundering for friends' companies, for Wall Street, we need this Great Black Hope to rebuild the economy and the American dream.

He's the man - and yes, he can. And once he's in the White House? I'm a buyer.
